Jailed Russian Punks Pussy Riot Get Six More Months

Following the disputed Russian presidential elections in which former president Vladimir Putin recaptured the post, the noted Russian feminist punks Pussy Riot staged a protest inside a Moscow church calling for Putin to be ousted. They were quickly arrested and charged with "hooliganism" in early March.

A few days ago, the Pussy Riot members staged a jailhouse hunger strike to protest the fact that they only had two days to study the 2,800-page indictment. But that strike does not seem to have swayed the judge. According to The Guardian's Moscow correspondent, the band has just been given another six months' detention.

Defense lawyer Mark Feigin is calling this a show trial, stating to reporters, "Today's decision only proves again that our role as defendants here is a pure formality."  [Daily Swarm/Reuters]
