In what may be the best musical news you’ve heard all month or one of the first signs of the apocalypse, the sons of music’s first family might be headed for a reunion. The band will be honored by BMI at its eighth annual Urban Awards on September 4, and every member of the group, with one very notable exception, has confirmed their attendance for the all-star tribute. While it’s nice that the Jacksons receive some recognition for their body of work (previous honorees include luminaries Little Richard, James Brown, and Chuck Berry), and Tito and Jermaine will hopefully have a chance to wear their sparkly tuxes again, it’s just irresponsible to get people’s hopes up for a full reunion. Michael is probably not coming. If the best he could do for the Super Bowl was an animated lizard, something tells me that he’s not going to show up for rubber chicken and a “Freedom” medley. [NME]
