According to NME, Jack White admitted that he does not enjoy playing festivals that much and looks at them as "a necessary evil." His reason for this? They do not excite him.
This is not a surprising sentiment, considering the guitar virtuoso feeds off the energy of his crowd and atmosphere. He is all about the "excitement" factor, which is why he chooses to play shows without set lists, and during his solo tour picking which backup band (boys or girls) he'll use last minute.
Though he pointed out many pros to festival appearances, including exposure and a decent paycheck, he confessed that though everyone at an outdoor festival's drinking, lazing under the sun and wandering around may be fun for them, it is not interesting to him.
Thanks for putting up with the boredom, Mr. White!
