Performing a Beatles song in front of Paul McCartney may rank as one of the most intimidating moments of an artist’s career, but Jack White went one stage further in June by offering up this version of “Mother Nature’s Son” for the former Beatle and Barack Obama at the White House. Say what you like about White, but he’s certainly got a pair of titanium plated balls.
Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl and Elvis Costello were also in attendance at the event, which saw McCartney pick up the Gershwin Prize For Popular Song from Obama. PBS is set to air the entire concert from the White House on July 28, which includes further Beatles covers from a long list of luminaries. But it’s unlikely many of them will match White’s tender version of this White Album classic.
