The fears of J. Dilla fans have been put to rest as BBE Records announced they will posthumously release The Shining on August 22. At the time of his death last February J. Dilla, born James Yancey, had nearly finished working on the full-length album. With the final touches made by long time friend and Detroit hip hop mainstay Karriem Riggins, the project is ready for public consumption.
The Shining will feature contributions from Common, Pharoahe Monch, Busta Rhymes, Madlib, and Gulity Simpson. In addition, BBE will package a bonus DVD with the CD and will feature a tribute film put together by Brian Atkins of Okayplayer Films.
The Shining is the second of three J. Dilla releases scheduled for 2006. Stones Throw Records released the instrumental Donuts in February, while the import only Jay Love Japan is still without a definite release date.
