Twilight soundtrack number one album in the country, box office annihilation sure to follow

In a somewhat surprising development, the soundtrack to the upcoming teen vampire flick, Twilight, is the number one album in the country after selling 165,000 copies last week, beating out AC/DC’s Black Ice by only 5,000 copies.

Twilight’s ascension to the top is remarkable because it’s the first time since 2006 that a soundtrack has hit the top of the Billboard (Jack Johnson’s soundtrack to Curious George), and the Twilight soundtrack only has three completely new songs on it (two by Paramore and one by Perry Farrell) among older songs by Linkin Park and Muse.

This should bode well for the ticket sales of the movie when it comes out next week, however, as it is still undetermined if the film will be as big of a hit as the book it’s based on. [Idolator]

The beginning of the second paragraph is untrue. The soundtrack to Juno and Mamma Mia have both topped the Billboard 200 chart this year.
