Isaac Hayes funeral to take place in Memphis. Death likely caused by stroke.

The funeral for legendary soul singer Isaac Hayes is set to take place next Monday in Memphis, TN. The memorial service will be held in Cordova, TN at 11 a.m. at the Hope Presbyterian Church located at 8500 Walnut Grove.

As Isaac Hayes' funeral is being set up, the Hayes family has set up areas where fans and well wishers can pay their respects. The Hayes family has asked that donations be sent to the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, in lue of flowers. Hayes had been a tireless supporter of the Stax Music Academy and Stax Records in life.

The donations can be made out to Soulsville, 926 E. McLemore Avenue, Memphis, TN 38106. The donation must be specified to say "In memory of Isaac Hayes." Well wishers can also send e-mail condolences to message@isaachayes.com

Officially, the cause of death has not been determined although Memphis authorities believe his death was caused by a stroke related to high blood pressure.

Isaac Hayes, the deep-voiced soul music star who won an Oscar for writing the theme song to the movie "Shaft," died over the weekend from a stroke related to high blood pressure, Memphis authorities said on Tuesday.

 

Hayes, 65, who once described himself as a "health fanatic," was being treated for high blood pressure and had suffered a non-fatal stroke last year.
