As we reported last month, Iron and Wine's Sam Beam is heading out on an intimate tour in support of his equally hushed rarities collection, Around the Well. That's the Xylography-heavy album cover to the left. No confirmation yet on whether Beam made it himself. He loves doing that. The Sub Pop release drops May 19 as a 2 CD/3-LP collection but its corresponding tour boasts a truly awesome "All Request" setlist poll over at ironandwine.com. Folk fans attending the shows have until March 30 until polls close. Feel free to vote even if you're not able to attend any of the shows. Sub Pop will be uploading a professionaly mixed recordings of each performance to playedlastnight.com.
There's also an exclusive Robert Lee-designed t-shirt of Methane Studios (Atlanta, GA) on the site. I wish there was an "E" between that guy's name, but anyway, Sub Pop says "this is the first in a series of new merch items that can only be found online." So before you download the eventually-leaked Around the Well, at least consider a tee. Nothing says indie-folk like an "American Apparel cotton t-shirt with discharge screenprinting!" That's just about enough shilling for this month.
