Irmin Schmidt & Kumo: new album in the Can

Krautrockers, rejoice! Irmin Schmidt, keyboardist for seminal German underground rockers Can, is getting set to release a collaboration with British breakbeat scientist Jono Podmore, better known as Kumo. Together, the pair have concocted a sonic tapestry that incorporates ambient textures, abstract snatches of jazzy trumpet (courtesy of Ian Dixon), ethereal electro-acoustic splashes of color, Schmidt's atmospheric keyboards, and Kumo's beats and programming. Like his former bandmate Holger Czukay, Schmidt refuses to rest on his Krautrock laurels, instead pushing forward into the domain of very contemporary-sounding electronica. Schmidt and Kumo are planning to bring their evocative sound to stages across Europe later this year (sorry, Americans), and Axolotl Eyes is set for release July 22 on Mute.

Interesting cover. Is that NSFW or are those not real people?
