iPod shortage possible this Christmas, but Obama rocks a Zune
Those commercials for the "funnest iPod ever" could be paying off in a big way. Analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Brothers has found that many retail outlets, including juggernauts Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target are experiencing a shortage of Apple media players. Though initial predictions, which took into account the tough economic times and the fact that lots of people are pretty happy with their current iPod, predicted sales at between eighteen and nineteen million units, actual sales might be closer to twenty-one million. This would seem to be the perfect ingredient for a merry Apple this Christmas, but recent reports have linked Barack Obama to the Zune. Super sales or not, to have the first media player be anything but an iPod would be a huge lump of coal in Steve Jobs' stocking. [CNET]
I've grown less and less fond of the iPod. I have an 80gb iPod Classic, and it does just what I need it to. I also have a 16gb iPod touch, and I don't like it nearly enough because there's no tactile feedback, I can't jailbreak it, and it has a way shorter battery life. Some of the games are neat, the WiFi is great, but I just don't like the interface.
And I may be in the minority, but I don't want to play music on my phone.
I'm with abomunist. I just want my iPod to do its job as a mp3 player. Forget phones and internet stuff. And the Touch and iPhone aren't nearly large enough. I like to have my entire music collection at my finger tips. 80GB owner here.

After I got an iPhone I ditched my iPod Nano. I'm surprised Obama is a Zune guy.
i like the zune 2. way better than the ipod classic.
I'm wary of Microsoft though. DRM and whatnot. But Apple's just as bad.
