iPod sales remain strong in weak economic climate

Times are tough. It seems that every day brings some bit of dreary economic news, from layoffs at record companies to Circuit City's bankruptcy filing. The Apple Corporation, however, seems to be weathering the storm quite nicely. Sales of Mac computers and iPods have remained in line with predictions despite decreased consumer spending on electronics. Though sales of iPods were actually down from last year, the player is still on track to register sales of nearly nineteen million units and looks healthy going into the Christmas season. The iPhone was predicted by some to be the iPod killer, but it seems that Apple's cash cow might have a few miles left in it. [Silicon Alley Insider]
