Invisible Conga People "Cable Dazed" (Track Review)

I've been quite adamant on this space about my love for the glamorous indie disco coming from Jersey's Italians Do it Better imprint. Every track they've minted so far has been a riff or reproduction on a vintage sound, with Johnny Jewel's production playing Giorgio Moroder to a small harem of ice cool Debbie Harrys or hot and bothered Donna Summers. In contrast, the debut 12" from newly signed New York duo Invisible Conga People is nudged forward by ripples of minimal house music, the gentle edge of a wave started when the Knife dropped Silent Shout. Like those Swedish siblings, the vocals on "Cable Dazed" are warped and haunted. It's difficult to summon a mental image of actual humans producing them, but they quiver with real feeling as they softly intone, "don't let it bother me." But if the Knife can be occasionally bombastic in their unpredictable mutability, ICP maintains a singular mood, best described as quietly spooked. The tempo begins to creep up at the end, but any hint of flashing dance club lights are filtered through a thick sheet of ice. As a breeze of cerebral remorse amidst the ascendant record label's decadent roster, it's an intriguing left turn. [Buy this album on iTunes

Edited the post. "Don't let it bother me," are the correct lyrics.
