Surprise… sometimes Interpol will come around… to North America. The band announced they would be adding two North American shows to their tour to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of their debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights. The shows will be at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York on Sept. 23 and the Los Angeles Historic Park in Los Angeles on Sept.30. Those are the only dates that they will be in the United States – the rest of the tour has them playing in the Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Mexico, which is the final stop.

The band will be playing the entire album from start to finish, in the tradition of groups like Pink Floyd playing Dark Side of the Moon during their Pulse tour and U2, who is kicking off their Joshua Tree tour in May. Many other groups, like Arcade Fire to Gorillaz to Rush have done this. It’s a way of pleasing their longtime fans who often come to concerts for a touch of nostalgia rather than just listening to all new material. They will also have Battles and Deerhunter touring with them.
Turn on the Bright Lights was one of their two albums to hit gold record status, with the second one being their follow-up, Antics. Both records were gold in the United States and the United Kingdom. While their freshman album didn’t chart as high as their subsequent ones, many fans hold it up as their best output.
Interpol fans will be in for quite a treat – the band is releasing an as-of-yet-named new album in 2018, which will most likely result in another tour. Also, ’19 will mark the 15-year anniversary of Antics, so they might even do a commemorative tour.
Fan club members will get the first crack at tickets. The Forest Hill presale begins at 10 am EST on May 2 and the Los Angeles presale starts at 10 am PST on the same day. The general public can begin buying the New York tickets at noon EST on May 5 and 10 am PST for the L.A. show.
