Indie rockers offer their tips for the Super Bowl

Effete indie rockers aren’t usually known for their encyclopedic sports knowledge, but the Super Bowl tends to bring out some unlikely football fans. With that in mind, the excellent Earfarm has been rounding up the opinions of foppish wastrels who will doubtless disappear behind floppy fringes and go back to talking about how life, like, really sucks once this weekend is over.

Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear is at least honest in his outlook: “I don’t know anything about sports and don’t follow football at ALL,” he says, mindful that every member of his fanbase has been beaten up by a jock at least once in their lives. Droste instead canvases opinion from his football-loving brother, who tips the Cardinals to win “because they have never won it before and Pitt just won a few years ago.”

Other indie rockers offering insight include Sam Jayne of Love is Laughter (going with the Steelers) and Grampall Jookabox (the Cardinals). The last word goes to Brooklyn band the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, a group of pantywaists who their spent high school careers trying to skip physical education classes: “As long as there are nachos, I’ll be cool.” [Earfarm]
