Gaming site IGN.com has done a startlingly good job of compiling a list of the top 10 singers in death metal. Of course only one of these guys (yes, they're all guys) actually sings, but within the anti-melodic vocalist set, the list hits some of the more unique throat-scrapers in death metaldom. It warms the cockles of this journalist's heart to see Frank Mullen from Suffocation on the list -- he brings excellent elocution to a genre not known for it -- and Demilich's bowel-burping Antti Boman is a pleasant, left-of-center surprise.
If we're talking sheer distinctiveness, I would switch out Assuck's Paul Pavlovich and Pestilence's Martin van Drunen (IGN spells his name wrong) for Gorguts' Luc Lemay and perhaps Deicide's Glen Benton, Nile's Karl Sanders, or Carcass's Jeff Walker. Maybe throw Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy in there for the sake of gender parity. But that's just splitting long unkempt hairs. This is a damn solid list.
