IGN pegs 10 alt-rock bands that should have been huge

IGN, primarily a video game review repository, has been getting in on the music list action as of late, and their newest list picks 10 alt0rock bands that should have been huge. Their reasoning behind the bands they chose is kind of dubious, i.e. their impact on other bands, and that reasoning leads to some strange choices (like the couple of bands they chose that influenced Jimmy Eat World, who themselves are decidedly un-huge).

But given the nature of this list, the only band I’ve actually listened to is Kyuss, and I can honestly say there’s no way they should have been huge. Josh Homme is way better in Queens of the Stone Age than he ever was in Kyuss.

Granted, the list is limited to the alt-rock era (roughly 1991-1998 if my musical sub-sect math is on) so that eliminates easy gimmes like the Pixies, the Velvet Underground, and Joy Division.

Wow, this list takes me right back to high school and early college. Some of these albums are still amazing when you dig them out of the boxes of cd's you've left in your closet for years. Sunny Day, Catherine Wheel, Quicksand, Texas Is The Reason, and Christie Front Drive were all bands that soundtracked my life back in the day. Thanks for linking to the list!

You have to be kidding Kyuss was a great band, that never actually got the credit they desserved. Comparatively speaking Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss are actually two seperate genres of music, especially their new stuff, just wierd. Kyuss rocks, you should listed to the Welcome to Sky Valley album to its entirety. Its a great album.
