Iggy Pop, Nymphs Drummer Alex Kirst Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver
Very tragic news that’s just being reported, days after the fact: Alex Kirst – who drummed for the early ‘90s glam/alt band the Nymphs and, later, as a member of Iggy Pop-backing band The Trolls – was killed on January 13 in a hit-and-run. Kirst’s body was found by the side of a California desert road late that same night after a passerby, mistaking Kirst for an intoxicated person, called police. Billboard is reporting that investigators say there’s no evidence that the car even attempted to stop after hitting Kirst, who was walking. Apparently there were witnesses, though, because police are offering a reward to anyone who can help identify a “light-colored Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon” they say was involved. Pretty sad all around.

Careful with the headline! To me it read like Iggy Pop AND Nymphs drummer Alex Kirst were killed. As in both of them. Still very sad.

We played with the Nymphs a few times when I was playing with Death Ride '69. I always loved their shows, and this is just horribly tragic. :(
