Idris Elba Sings Google Translate Songs On ‘The Tonight Show’

The star and Jimmy Fallon tackle Sir Mix-a-Lot, Britney, and Boyz II Men

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon had Emmy-nominated and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Idris Elba (“The Wire,” The Dark Tower) on Monday night for a recurring segment called “Google Translate Songs,” where the guest sings a song that has been translated from English to a foreign language back to English.

The first song was Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back,” or “The Baby Escaped.”

Tonight Show band The Roots started in on the song, which, of course, starts, “I like big butts and I cannot lie/ You other brothers can’t deny/ When a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face, you get sprung!”

Elba’s translated version went, humorously, “I love large saplings, that is the truth/ A few of your siblings were here/ That woman showed up and has small hips and a sleeve around your head, you stole seeds!”

Then it Fallon’s turn, as he tackles “Baby One More Time” aka “Meet My Kids” by Britney Spears.

“Oh baby, baby, how was I supposed to know that something wasn’t right here?/ Oh baby, baby, I shouldn’t have let you go, and now you’re out of sight, yeah” turns into “Here is a kid, who should have informed me, that my stuff had gone missing?/ Here is a kid, who should have been kept hidden, and now that kid is blind, yeah.”

Elba is game for a duet with Fallon of Boyz II Men‘s “I’ll Make Love To You,” and the Zootopia star sells the bit by getting down on his knees at one point.

The Dark Tower also stars Matthew McConaughey and hits theaters Friday, August 4.
