Idolator follows Stereogum into the Buzznet

A year after rumors of such a move, music-blog and Gawker-affiliated site Idolator has been sold to "music-focused web and social network" Buzznet, the company that acquired Stereogum recently. The sale came bundled with the news that Gridskipper and Wonkette would also be leaving the blog-o-sphere known as "Gawker Media," with Idolator and Gridskipper going to their internet superiors while Wonkette is being "spun off to the managing editor" and will now stand on its own two feet. Head Gawker Nick Denton, in an internal memo, said that the sales were spurred by fears of a recession in advertising and the poor performance of the sites in question (which accounted for 3% of the company’s 228 million monthly pageviews).  Said Denton, "Someone else will have better luck selling the advertising than we did."
