Late last month, Taleshia Ford, 17, was shot and killed in a D.C. club when another patron's gun went off during an altercation with a bouncer. As a response, D.C. Council member Jim Graham set up an emergency roundtable meeting to discuss the possibility of banning all minors from attending shows at venues that serve alcohol. You can read more about the story here.
Here's a video of former Fugazi frontman and Evens member Ian MacKaye speaking out at this rountable discussion. Not to oversimplify things, but it should be noted that since this roundtable discussion, Graham seems to have modified his stance, and is leaning towards clubs that allow minors needing special permits instead.

There are a bunch of all ages venues in LA that serve alcohol, and I'm pretty sure nobody's gotten shot because of it. Perhaps we're avoiding a more serious issue than booze? |

I love that Ian actually gives a damn about the people who support music. Instead of banning minors, they should, you know, check people for guns at the door. The under 21 crowd is what keeps a live music scene active, for the most part. |
