HTC Invests $300 Million In Beats By Dre
Well, it looks like we'll be hearing the technology of Dr. Dre's headphones, Beats By Dre, through another medium in the coming year. Smartphone company HTC has invested $300 million in the company, according to USA Today. The plan is to incorporate the Beats By Dre technology into HTC's devices to create "high-performance mobile sound products" as soon as this fall. So does this mean that cellphones will finally have decent speakers? Or does this just mean that the audio output will be improved? We'll have to wait and see, I suppose.
Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Beats By Dre and Interscope Geffen Chairman, issued the following statement:
"The marriage of these two companies is very, very good. We are very good for each other," says Jimmy Iovine. "With HTC's innovation, technology and leadership, we feel we can really compete with anybody in this area."
