Introducing a new daily feature on the Prefix blog, the Unholy Xmas Song of the Day, a celebration and public shaming of the worst in holiday music. Here at Prefix we're offering our very own advent calendar, counting down to Christmas with a daily reminder that it takes one of the holiest days to inspire the most unholy music.
Does any single event occasion songs as reliably, gobsmackingly awful as
Christmas? We begin with Newsong's holiday classic "Christmas Shoes," one of the most astonishingly metaphor-free songs ever written. The tale of a young boy scraping together enough money to buy a pair of Christmas shoes for his mother. Did I mention that she's on the verge of death? Or that it's the theme song of a TV movie starring Rob Lowe? I've said enough. Let's let Newsong do the rest:

You have no idea how a movie and/or the music that goes with it, can actually touch the hearts of someone. Sometimes, the things that happen in our lives are not for our benefit, but for someone elses. May you try to find the good in all, while you travel through your own journey for "finding yourself" |

this is my favorite christmas song ever
