Fox Searchlight has announced a Nov. 23 release date for the Alfred Hitchcock biopic Hitchcock.
The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the iconic director and is based on Stephen Rebello’s 1998 book Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho. The film follows Hitchcock’s decision to adapt Robert Bloch’s novel Psycho to the screen and the struggle he went through to find funding and support for the project. Also, the film will focus on Hitchcock’s relationship with wife Alma Reville, played by Helen Mirren.
Anvil: The Story of Anvil director Sacha Gervasi directed the film from a script by Black Swan writer John Laughlin. Fox Searchlight will be releasing the film in limited theaters first, with a later expansion to other cities. The November release date is right in the middle of “Oscar season,” most likely due to Fox’s hope for Academy Award nominations for the film. Considering the high profile cast and last year’s Oscar-darling The Artist also being about classic filmmaking, Hitchcock seems like a shoe-in for at least a few nominations. [Deadline]
