I typically hit Hipster Runoff news of the continuing electro-wars, but today I was greeted with perhaps HRO's first investigative report, and it's a doozy: They have video proof that Girl Talk, aka Greg Gillis, was not the first person to use that as a moniker. That distinction goes to Stephanie Tanner (aka Jodie Sweetin, the meth-head), her best pal, tough girl Gia, and Kimmy Gibbler on the show Full House, who used the name for a performance of Ace of Base's "I Saw The Sign." The incredibly awkward, limp-syncing, and oddly creepy video footage is above.
Hipster Runoff are asking whether or not Gillis will change his name due to their report (obviously jokingly), but I think it would lend Gillis even more junk-culture cred if he claims that his name is from Full House. It's not like the phrase "girl talk" has only been used by the two groups, but it would be pretty funny if Gillis uses this to his advantage (like says the ficitional Girl Talk were an inspiration).
