If any deceased musician deserves a biopic, it is Miles Davis. The seminal jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer defined bebop and birthed cool. A testament to his life is long overdue, and actor Don Cheadle agrees.
Cheadle, in addition to co-writing the screenplay, is set to direct and star in a biopic of Davis. While the project is developing slowly, recently Davis's son and nephew confirmed that Herbie Hancock will score the film.
Hancock is no stranger to Davis or to composing excellent soundtracks. As part of Davis's "second great quintent," Hancock reportedly found his voice as a piantist. Additionally, Hancock's work on the soundtrack for Round Midnight earned him an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Score in 1986. It looks as if the pieces are coming together to create a film worthy of the jazz legend. [via Paste]
