Hendrix Rock Band In The Works, Gamers Prepare To Burn, Eroticize Plastic Guitars (Correction Appended)

Jimi Hendrix's stepsister, Janie Hendrix, who controls the guitarist's estate, recently mentioned Jimi's name in connection to a Hendrix-themed version of Rock Band, reportedly saying it would be on store shelves by the end of the year. A Harmonix representative, however, took a step back from that promise. “While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform," the representative said. "Stay tuned.”

MTV Games and Harmonix have previously announced that their next artist-themed edition would focus on Green Day. As the 40th anniversary of Hendrix's death approaches in the fall, however, it would seem to be the kind of marketing opportunity that leads publishers to put a rush job in motion. [Billboard]

I admit that I don't have Rock Band and haven't played it much, but this sounds thrilling.

Oh man. This could be the best. I mean, even Hendrix's worst songs should be fun to play. As long as they include "If 6 Was 9" it'll be awesome.

We just got word from the Harmonix folks that no such deal has been struck. Yet. We'll keep our fingers crossed, though.
