After the shock of Heath Ledger’s death passes, many in the music and film community will be left with tough decisions. In addition to Ledger’s much-publicized role as the Joker in The Dark Knight, he was shooting a new film for Terry Gilliam and had recently started a record company with Ben Harper. But those in charge of the estate of singer/songwriter Nick Drake may be in an even tougher position.
The estate is in possession of a video that Ledger shot and edited for Drake's song “Black Eyed Dog.” The video, originally made for a Drake installation at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival, ends with Ledger “drowning” himself in a bathtub. As the Drake legend goes, “Black Eyed Dog” was the last song he wrote before overdosing on the antidepressant amytriptyline. The Drake estate has confirmed the existence of the video but has not indicated whether it will be released in any form. [Billboard]
