Hear A Song From Elliott Smith's High School Band, Stranger Than Fiction

If you happened to have picked up a copy of homeless benefit compilation Live From Nowhere Near You, you probably instantly put on the previously unreleased Elliott Smith recording, "The Real Estate." You then likely put it on repeat for about an hour or so to marinate on it. Then, it's possible you noticed a download code on the artwork of the album. That is, of course, if you bought a physical copy.

If so, you should head to the GreyDay Record website immediately and enter that code because it provides a free download of the original version of "The Real Estate." As Pitchfork notes, the track was originally recorded by Smith's high school band, Stranger Than Fiction. It turns out that his former bandmates actually made the benefit compilation and ripped a copy of the song from a cassette release.
