HBO is launching a streaming service in Nordic countries beginning in October. However, unlike the HBO GO service in the US, the Nordic service will not require a cable TV subscription to the premium channel.
According to Deadline, HBO Nordic will feature all of the network’s current shows, including Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. The service will cost less than 10 Euros a month, which is roughly $12.50 in US dollars. The reason for the unveiling for HBO Nordic is due to Netflix planning to launch a Nordic streaming service soon.
Back in June, over 150,000 people in the US signed a petition to get HBO to open the HBO GO service to all users regardless of their cable package. HBO declined the offer via Twitter, citing an article that explained that opening up the service to non-cable subscribers would cause problems between the network and TV providers.
