Wolf Parade co-frontman Dan Boeckner hasn't been nearly as busy as Spencer Krug during the band's downtime, but he has a musical side project of his own with an impending release. Handsome Furs, which pairs Boeckner with his fiancée Alexei Perry, are set to release their debut album, Plague Park, May 22 via Sub Pop. In an interview published today on Pitchfork, Boeckner described Handsome Furs as "basically Wolf Parade without the guy that everybody likes and no real instruments." Last I checked guitars and keyboards (which Bockner plays, while Perry programs beats with a drum machine) are real instruments, but far be it from me to disagree with a highly successful indepent artist. Here's the tracklist. 01 What We Had 02 Hearts of Iron 03 Handsome Furs Hate This City 04 Snakes on the Ladder 05 Cannot Get, Started 06 Sing! Captain 07 Dead + Rural 08 Dumb Animals 09 The Radio's Hot Sun Finally, the band has set up a MySpace page, where you can stream one of the forthcoming tracks, "Handsome Furs Hate This City." I like Boeckner, but you know, that's just me.
