Half Japanese, a lo-fi art-punk group that was instrumental in the development of North American indie rock (having influenced such seminal acts as Sonic Youth, Daniel Johnston, REM, and Nirvana), are now to release Overjoyed, their first LP in 13 years. The album was produced by Deerhoof's John Dieterich and is out September 2 on Joyful Noise.
Overjoyed comes at a time of renewed interest in the band, and follows last year's reissue of their very first album, Half Gentlemen/Not Beasts. Today's announcement was accompanied by a short documentary about Half Japanese and the upcoming release, as well as Overjoyed's first single, "In Its Pull." Watch/listen below:
