Hagar and Anthony Nixed From Guitar Hero: Van Halen; Cherone Era Also Criminally Neglected

It’s nice to be Eddie Van Halen’s kid. Wolfgang Van Halen, the current bassist for his dad’s band, will be featured in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Van Halen instead of Michael Anthony. Given that the avatars in the game start out in Eighties glam gear, this begs the question of whether the younger Van Halen, who was born in 1991, starts out in diapers. Game designers also came down firmly in the David Lee Roth camp with regard to the Van Halen vs. Van Hagar debate, and Diamond Dave is shown fronting the band in the promo material. Sammy Hagar has not commented on his exclusion from the game, but is probably focusing on Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill, which he recently opened in St. Louis, and the eighty million dollars he banked from selling interests in his tequila company. The band’s other vocalist, Gary Cherone, meanwhile, is left to bask in the glow of the thanks he received at the band’s Hall of Fame induction from Michael Anthony, who apparently doesn’t exist. [NME]
