Guitar Hero sales over $100 million in first week, thousands doomed to never actually learn guitar

The highly anticipated release of Guitar Hero III lived up to the presale hype. Activision, the company that produces the game, announced yesterday that its latest installment grossed over $100 million in sales in the first seven days it was on the market.

Not bad considering that number was based on sales in North America alone. The release of the game comes before its first competition, Rock Band, which is MTV's version. Trying to outdo the fine folks at Activision, Rock Band comes with a drum kit and microphone but, unlike MTV, will actually play music. [Variety]
