Guitar Hero goes portable and announces Aerosmith partnership
In order to keep its place on top of the faux music game pile, Guitar Hero is diversifying product and partnering with popular artists to offer console games built a band’s catalog. For those players who can’t get enough button mashing in their living room, Guitar Hero has released a travel version shaped, of course, like a mini-guitar. Though the game play includes the familiar fret buttons and a version of the whammy bar, the graphics closely resemble those of the average video poker game. For those who prefer to keep their rocking confined to their domiciles, Guitar Hero is releasing a version of the game featuring Boston rock legends Aerosmith. The game will feature a wide selection of Joe Perry riffs and also feature songs from bands that have toured and been otherwise associated with Aerosmith over the years. Game developer Activision also held motion capture sessions with band members, so that gamers will be able to watch their famous moves while playing the game. The Guitar Hero portable is available now; no date has been set for the release of the Aerosmith game. [Billboard] and [Gizmodo]
