Guitar Hero III has release date, competition
My friend Tommy probably summed it up it best when he said, ''"You know, the biggest letdown in the history of the world is finding out after your first Guitar Hero marathon that, like, you can'''t actually play guitar. Seriously, it'''s just awful.''"Fair virtual-shredder: It'''s about to get a whole lot better, and a whole lot worse. Guitar Hero III, the hit franchise'''s (carry the one, drop the zero''¦) third installment, hits the shelves today amidst feverish anticipation and''for the first time''looming competition.
This Holiday season MTV, through a little gaming distributor you might have heard of called EA, ups the ante on Activision'''s Hero with its release of the brand spankin''' new Rock Band. Says Reuters:
''"Created by half of the team that developed "Guitar Hero 2", "Rock Band" adds drums, bass and microphone, allowing up to four people to play together. The game will initially only be sold in bundles costing at least $160, but has garnered lots of buzz from gamers.''"
As for Hero III, the new track list features such shred-worthy classics as Weezer'''s ''"My Name is Jonas,''" The Sex Pistols ''"Anarchy in the UK,''" Guns N Roses''' ''"Welcome to the Jungle,''" Sonic Youth'''s ''"Kool Thing,''" and''of course, of course''The Killers''' ''"When You Were Young.''" I'm waiting for Emo Hero. It comes with a special peripheral that you place beneath your eyes and weep into. You score points based on how many teardrops you drip into the controller... and bonus points if it's mixed with a high concentration of eyeliner.

I'm gonna ask for DS Jam Session for x-mas... but I am down right amazed that Sonic Youth has ended up in such a game. Awesome.

i just placed an order for the new Tony Hawk for DS. Is Jam Session suppose to be good?

I think Jam Session looks really cool... I guess besides the Guitar Hero playalong, it gives you the freedom to just play the damn thing like a guitar. Plus, they're coming out with a package deal in November that bundles the game with a mini amp. Yes, I know I could just play the guitar instead. But I like the idea of playing DS guitar while on a lunchbreak at work or something.

Dave, have you played Tony Hawk DS yet? I loved the Gamecube ones... but I wasn't sure how well it would carry over onto such a small screen?

haven't played DS Tony Hawk yet, but it got good reviews and I've liked every THPS game I've played. Sadly, I think I had Brain Age 2 in my rental queue so I think that's what's being sent instead.thanks for the info on Jam Session. I'll have to check that out also. sounds kinda awesome.
