Auto-tune is totally understandable and acceptable in the following two scenarios:
1. You can't actually sing, and you need help staying on pitch.
2. You're bored, and you have the "I Am T-Pain" app on your iPhone.
With Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste, we can immediately disqualify the first scenario as he can sing (very, very well). The second scenario makes a bit more sense, but to have an entire side-project based on Auto-tune and "diva-y" dance music? Well, that's a bit of a stretch.
In this interview with Irish channel TG4, Droste's bandmates Christopher Bear and Daniel Rossen seem a bit relieved that the side-project dubbed "Samantha" has yet to come to fruition. It's with nervous laughter that Bear and Rossen describe Droste's side-project, and Bear calls the side-project "a good idea" none too convincingly.
While fellow Brooklynite Jay-Z is a fan of the band, he might have to retract his statement that it is "the death of Auto-tune." Or, Hova could just tell Ed Droste, "You T-Pain'n too much." [Paste]
