The fact that Greg Laswell has had five of his songs placed on Grey's Anatomy could imply that he appealed to an adult contemporary fan base, but judging from the showcases he is playing at SXSW this year -- Paste, Filter and Hotel Café, the singer-songwriter has at least some scenester cred. Take a Bow follows Laswell's 2009 Covers EP, which features songs by Kate Bush, Kirsten Hersh and Mazzy Star (whose "Take Everything" is covered in the video above). Out May 4 on Vanguard Records, Take a Bow is a product of solitude; Laswell wrote and engineered the songs in an Arizona cabin, and he played the instruments himself in the studio. Greg Collins (who won a Grammy for his work with U2 and has also worked with Fiona Apple and Gwen Stefani) mixed the album, so the production will likely be finished and lush. Laswell will be toting out the piano ballads this May and June. Tour dates are below.
