It's been a long, strange trip for Green Day, starting out as skate punks in Cali before writing rock operas and critically-acclaimed Broadway revues. And now Green Day's adenoidal frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will join NBC's premier primetime singing competition The Voice.
Just last night, the show's Twitter account announced Armstrong would join The Voice as a mentor assisting judge Christina Aguilera's team. If you're new to the show, the judges get to pick contestants to coach, who then compete against the other teams.
Armstrong reportedly signed on because members of his family are big fans of The Voice. His direct counterpart will be Team Adam Levine's mentor Mary J. Blige. What a strange, strange world in which we live in. [Wall Street Journal]
