Via NME: Tomorrow will bring the release of a new single from Green Day. More mopey suburban angst? Not quite. How about a cover of John Lennon's anti-establishment classic "Working Class Hero?" Because it doesn't get more working class and anti-establishment than an aging pop-punk millionaire. Of course, Lennon wasn't exactly a poor lad by the time in his career that he recorded the song, but I have to believe he infused more of a genuine spirit into the song than will one Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong. Then again, the song is part of the previously-announced Lennon covers collection that will raise money for Amnesty International's relief efforts in Darfur, slated to hit stores June 12. Other artists involved include...Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera?! So conflicting, modern life!!! Do I appreciate stars helping out charities or recoil in horror from their gall to think they can do Lennon material justice? Help!
