Because it came out last Friday (May 15), Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown‘s first week sales totals are totaled after onyl three days. It didn’t matter much for 21st Century Breakdown’s chart position, because it claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart with 215,000 copies sold.
What’s more impressive is that the average daily sales for Breakdown (more than 71,000) actually beat the seven day total for the number two album, Hannah Montana: The Movie‘s soundtrack, which moved 68,000 copies last week.
Green Day are expected to stay near the top of the charts next week, but are predicted to finish at number two behind Eminem’s Relapse. [Billboard]
