Green Day Tops "10 Best Comeback Albums" List

The votes are in, and the loyal readers of Rolling Stone have spoken: Green Day's American Idiot is the #1 comeback album of all time. While my initial reaction was to infer an insane lack of perspective (and a voter base that's getting younger and younger), pretty much every single other selection on the list is the choice of an older fan. I mean three of these people are dead, and seven of these albums were released before 1990. Off the top of my head I can think of Common's Be, Sonic Youth's Murray Street, Al Green's Just Can't Stop, Mission of Burma's OnOffOn and Steely Dan's Two Against Nature as some great comeback/reunion albums I woulda liked to see on the list (and Suffocation's Souls To Deny but that's wishful thinking). So here's the list. Comment away:
1. Green Day, American Idiot
2. Elvis, From Elvis In Memphis
3. Meatloaf, Bat Out of Hell II - Back Into Hell
4. Neil Young, Freedom
5. Paul Simon, Graceland
6. Johnny Cash, American Recordings
7. Bob Dylan, Time Out of Mind
8. George Harrison, Cloud 9
9. Tina Turner, Private Dancer
10. Aerosmith, Permanent Vacation

this might just be my perception, but it seems as though Green Day always wins these types of polls at Rolling Stone

Graceland is great. And Hearts and Bones is better than its sales would indicate. How did they define "comeback"?

Anthony

...Bat Out of Hell II?? Surely there were more than two comebacks that topped that one.
