Green Day Title New Album 21st Century Breakdown, Announce May Release

Green Day have announced their anticipated follow-up to 2004's American Idiot will be titled 21st Century Breakdown, and will reportedly will be out in May. The album is split into three parts, titled "Heroes And Cons," "Charlatans And Saints," and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades."

Apparently Green Day aren't a punk band anymore--they'd really like to be a pretentious prog-rock three-piece. Seriously? Naming three parts of an album? That's like ELO or King Crimson or Asia territory. But it's probably about how f-ed up Green Day think this country is, not about unicorns.  [NME]

For better or for worse, American Idiot was one of the most recognizable political albums of the decade. Chew on that.
