Grateful to reunite in Pennsylvania in support of Obama

State College, Pennsylvania began preparing today for an onslaught of pot-bellied, pony tailed, tie-died music fans, because in case you haven't heard, THE DEAD ARE GETTING BACK TOGETHER! Band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzman, and Mickey Hart have announced plans to play a show in support of Barack Obama with the Allman Brothers band. The show is scheduled to take place on October 13 at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center, but organizers are hoping to find a larger venue, perhaps in nearby Pittsburgh, to hold the expected crowd. The show will mark the first Grateful Dead performance since 2004. Guitarist Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers will be filling in for Jerry Garcia on guitar. [Daily News]

They don't need a bigger venue, this is perfect! They were saying the roads can't handle it....haha, there are over 100,000 people that attend PSU football games!!!! Seriously!!!!

The final FRIEND OF THE DEVIL concert. As a 20 year lover of the GD I am deeply saddened by this willingness to alienate fans (family) with differing political viewpoints. To see them pimp themselves out in the name of politics makes me feel as though I've been cheated on. Ben Affleck, Babs, and now the headless Grateful Dead. I'm glad that my favorite surviving member, Robert Hunter, is not a part of this divisive sadness.

Jilted Lover

Robert Hunter was never a member of the Grateful Dead. He's a songwriter.

Popdugan,

I'd respectfully disagree with you. I'd bet that if you asked Bob, Phil, Mickey or Billy if he was a member that they'd say he was. A LOT of the words they were singing are his after all. He wasn't on the cover of Workingman's Dead for nothing...
