Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart Wanted For Assault

Not your usual law enforcement-related story concerning a former member of the Grateful Dead, but the band’s old drummer Mickey Hart is currently a wanted man for assault. According to multiple law enforcement agencies, a man has filed a police report stating he was assaulted by Hart at a Mickey Hart Band show on September 8 at Terrapin Hill Farm in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

Details are sketchy, but Kentucky police say it’s standard practice to issue an arrest warrant after charges are pressed. Hart’s camp has been quiet about the matter, but they told TMZ that they’re looking into the allegations.

Hart was the drummer for the Grateful Dead from 1967 until the group broke up in 1995. [Billboard]

Update: Here is the offical statement from Mickey Hart.

I am totally baffled by a bizarre claim of assault by me coming out of Kentucky – the home of Bluegrass and a state I love dearly. Any accusation or claim of assault against me is completely false and without any basis whatsoever. I played drums on “Shakedown Street,” but I never expected to be “The Victim or the Crime.”
