Spinner has an excellent summary up of the new autobiography of Grandmaster Flash, the first rapper ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats, Grandmaster Flash, who was born Joseph Saddler, talks of his conflict with Sugar Hill Records head Sylvia Robinson, the rest of the Furious Five, cocaine (this was in the pre-crack days), and his eventual recovery and reconnection with his family. Flash, who currently hosts a weekly Satellite Radio program, co-wrote the autiobiography wth David Ritz, who has previously co-wrote autobiographies of the likes of B.B. King and Marvin Gaye. For now, at least, a biopic is not in the works.
