Get ready to feel old. The now defunct, Jason Lytle-helmed Grandaddy is reissuing its definitive album, 2000's The Sophtware Slump, in celebration of the album's eleventh anniversary. It feels like just yesterday that indie rock guitar heroes started fooling around with synths and peppering their songs with pastoral bleeps and bloops. Grandaddy released one of the better Kid A-core albums in The Sophtware Slump, one of a rash of turn-of-the-millennium concept albums about the dangers of technology where choogling guitar riffage vied for attention alongside muted electronics. The reissue will come with a second disc of b-sides, demos, and alternative takes.
At press time, it would appear that The Sophtware Slump's reissue will be a Europe only affair, but when's the last time regional availability stopped anyone from getting their hands on music? United States residents will get a consolation prize in the form of reissues of 1997's Under the Western Freeway and 2003's Sumday on vinyl. Neither of those will contain bonus materials. Sigh. [CoS]
