...somewhat surprising this year. Voters were able to see past Amy Winehouse's myriad personal problems and remember she makes music a lot of people like, awarding her six nominations including album of the year for Back to Black and song of the year for "Rehab." Did you forget that the Foo Fighters still make music, and that they released an album this year? Well, you've been served a reminder, as the band is up for song of the year for "The Pretender" and album of the year for Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace. Other less surprising multiple nominees include Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, and Timbaland. The full list of nominees can be found here. And more commentary about surprise, sure things, and other oddities can be found after the jump...No love for the Boss for album of the year? That's odd. Although Springsteen got noms in three other categories, Magic was deemed not as great as Vince Gill's These Days and Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters.
Continuing with the legendary Grammy trend of nominating artists for best new artist who have actually be around for a while, Winehouse and, more inexplicably, Feist are both up for the award. Apparently voters never heard a little song called "Mushaboom" that made quite a splash a few years back.
I wonder what the Beastie Boys think of finding themselves in the best pop instrumental album category alongside lite jazz acts like Dave Koz and Chris Botti.
In further proof that no one knows what the hell the tag "alternative" means anymore, acts as divergent as Lily Allen, Bjork, and the White Stripes are up for best alternative music album, along with the Shins and Arcade Fire.
With how many guest spots T-Pain and Akon put in last year, it's no surprise to find those two peppered all over rap and r&b categories.
Flight of the Conchords are up for best comedy album, but sadly not Patton Oswalt. Can't win 'em all, Sub Pop.
Bright Eyes' Cassadaga, with its crazy decoder setup, gets a nod for best recording package. And the White Stripes' special USB edition of Icky Thump is up for best boxed or special limited edition packaging.
Apparently there are some hipsters among Grammy nominators, as Justice gets some love in dance categories and "D.A.N.C.E." is rightfully up for best short form music video, competing against Feist's "1234," Gnarls Barkley's "Gone Daddy Gone," and others. As for long form music video, it's all about "Trapped in the Closet Chapters 13-22."

Where is Spoon for any award - esp. Album? And why is Soulja Jackass nom'ed for anything!? What the f ck?!
