Gorillaz Live Show From Damascus Streaming In Full

· by

Gorillaz actually took the Road to Damascus on their current tour. Yep, Damon Albarn and his band played a show in the not-often visited city (at least by touring bands) this past Sunday (July 25) and NPR is currently streaming the set from the Syrian city in full over on their website.

According to the notes on the NPR site, Albarn traveled to Damascus to record the National Orchestra for Arabic Music and included their work on Plastic Beach, making the destination a natural choice for an unusual stop-off on Gorillaz current tour. The show took place at the Damascus Citadel, a 1,000-year-old walled palace, which looks pretty amazing from these pictures.

“The pinnacle of our exploit," said Gorillaz bassist Murdoc Niccals to NPR in his introduction to the show, before sharing the stage with Syria's National Orchestra. "It shows that it is possible to perform there. This shouldn't be a one-off gig — it should be the start of many, many bands going over there."
