It’s been a long year for Damon Albarn’s oddball cartoon band Gorillaz, who have spent a large chunk of their time on the road promoting Plastic Beach. Paul Simonon, formerly of the Clash and Albarn’s Good, the Bad and the Queen project, is one of the older members of the Gorillaz crew, but rumors he had suffered a stroke whilst on tour in Australia have been firmly denied.
Time Out Sydney was among the publications that picked up on the rumor, but a spokesperson for Gorillaz quashed it with the following statement: “The story has been blown out of proportion. He wasn’t feeling well, saw the doctor but nothing was wrong.” The spokesperson admitted that Simonon had attended a hospital, but reports of a stroke were clearly untrue, and the Gorillaz tour of Australia is continuing as planned.
