Google Could Delete MP3s From Your Gmail "In Extreme Cases"

Have you ever used your Gmail to send an mp3  to someone only to be left wondering if the all-seeing eye of Skynet, err, Google could delete it? Well, apparently they can, though only in the "most extreme cases," according to a spokesman for the web giant. Here's what he told TechCrunch

“We do not go into or interfere with user’s Gmail accounts, except in extreme cases, such as in response to court orders. Emails, data and files contained in Gmail are users’ private information.”

Shit. Well, now that everyone knows this, how long is it before the RIAA and MPAA come forward demanding shit like this through court orders? Ugh, maybe I'm just being paranoid, but this kind of makes me uneasy. I know I can't be the only one.

TechCrunch said they looked into this after a Gmail user contacted them after a folder containing copyrighted material (mp3s, if you must know) was almost completely deleted. The only remaining files were those of small indie bands.
